Do Not Love the World

1 John 2:12-27
Key Verse: 1 John 2:15, 16

“Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For everything in the world--the cravings of sinful man, the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and does--comes not from the Father but from the world.”

1. What is the reason that Apostle John wrote this letter to children, fathers, and young men (12-14)? Let’s talk about the work of God that happened to each of them. Why is it important that we receive the forgiveness of sins and know the One who is from the beginning? Especially, how could young men overcome the evil one?

2. What attitude do Christians have toward the world (15a)? What would happen if someone loved the world (15b)? What are the reasons why we shouldn’t love the world and the things in the world (16,17) (I Pe1:24)

3. What will happen at the last hour (18)? Why couldn’t they (those who belong to heresy) but leave the Christian community (19)? What do Christians know (20, 21)? How could Christians know the truth and identify all lies?

4. What is the most distinct characteristic of the antichrist (22-23)? What did they hear from the first and why should they hold on to it (24, 25)?

5. How can we distinguish the antichrist (26, 27)? Why is it so important for us to follow the teaching of the Holy Sprit?
