THE FAITH THAT OVERCOMES THE WORLD

I John: 5:1-21

Key Verse: 5: 4, 5

“For everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.”

            1. Who is the one who believes that Jesus is the Christ and who does the one born of God come to love (1)? How can we know that we love God and His children (2, 3)?

            2. Who can overcome the world (4a)? What is the only weapon with which we can overcome the world (4b, 5)? What are the three which testify that Jesus is the Son of God (6-8)? How do these three testify that Jesus is the Son of God?

3. Why should we truly receive the testimony of God about his Son (9)? Why doesn’t he who believes in the Son of God need the testimony and what kind of serious sin does he who does not believe in the Son of God commit (10)?

4. What does God testify about Jesus (11)? What is the difference between he who has the Son and he who does not have (12)? What is the purpose of the writer who wrote this letter (13)?

            5. What is the confidence we have in approaching God (14)? What can we also have confidence for after we know that he hears whatever we ask (15)?

6. How should we respond respectively to the brother who commits a sin that leads to death and the brother who commits a sin that does not lead to death (16,17)?

7. Why doesn’t anyone born of God commit sins repeatedly (18)? What does the one born of God know about oneself, the world, and the Son of God (19)? What is the writer’s last caution (21)?
