PUT ON THE NEW SELF

Ephesians 4:17-32

“and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”

 

  1. Read verses 17-19. Why do you think Paul insists so strongly in verse 17?  Why are people separated from the life of God? (18, Rom 1:21) What does it mean to “having lost all sensitivity”? (19) Do you think there are any warnings here for today’s Christians? (Sensuality issue)

 

  1.  Read verses 20-24.  What had the Ephesians been taught about life in Christ?  What is characteristic of the old self? (22)  Why is it corrupted? What is characteristic of the new self? (23) How can we put on the new self? (24, Rom. 8:5-6, 12:1-2)

 

  1.  Read verses 25-28. Why is it essential to speak truthfully to other believers? (25) How did Jesus teach about the topic of speaking truthfully in Matthew 12:36-37? Why do we have to manage our anger problem? (27) What happened to Cain when he was angry to God? (Gen. 4:5, 8)  Why must we work hard with our hands to earn money?(28)

 

  1. Read verses 29-30. Why does the unwholesome talk or gossip hurt the body of Christ? What should be the main focus of our talk among the believers? (29)? Why should we not grieve the Holy Spirit? (30)

 

  1. Read verses 31-32. What actions grieve the Holy Spirit? (31) What actions please the Holy Spirit? (32) What is the model for forgiveness set before us in verse 32? (Luke 23:34a)  Why is this model important to our relationship with other believers to keep unity in the body of Christ?
