UNITY IN THE BODY OF CHRIST

Ephesians 4:1-16

Key Verse: 4:3

1. What does it mean that Paul is a prisoner of the Lord? What is the calling they (and we) have received? (1:4-5,13; 2:8-10;19) What does it mean to live a life worthy of that calling? (1-6)

2.  Read verse 2. What are the character qualities Paul urges us to have?  How can we be humble? (Mark 10:42-44, John 13:3-14, Romans 12:3-10) How can we be gentle? (Num. 12:3, Matt. 5:5) How can we be patient? (Matt. 18:21-35, Rom. 12:19-21)

3. What is the nature of our unity? (3-6) How can we keep this unity? (2)

4. What can we learn about complete humbleness from the descent (incarnation) of Jesus? (Think about Jesus' example of humbleness. See Jn 1:14; Lk 2:7,14; Jn 4:7; Php 2:5-8)

5. What does the quote from Psalm 68 tell us about Jesus' ascension? That he gave gifts to men? What are some of the gifts he gives? How can these gifts be used to build up the whole body of Christ? (11-13)

6. What are the main signs of spiritual maturity (13-15) and immaturity (14) in the faith? What is the goal of our growth?  Why must every Christian grow? How can we grow in the inner man?
What do you think it means to speak the truth in love (15)? What is one practical way you can contribute to the unity?
