CHRIST’S SACRIFICE ONCE FOR ALL
Hebrews 10:1-18
Key Verse: 10:10
“And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.”
1. Why can’t the law make us perfect when we draw near to worship God? (1-2) What do those annual animal sacrifices remind us? (3-4) Why was the death of Christ essential to make perfect those who are sanctified? (2) Think about why we feel guilty before the law.
2. What does it mean “therefore” in verse 5? (OT sacrifices could not remove sins.) How did Jesus offer his life voluntarily to provide something better than animal sacrifices? (Ps. 40:6, 5-7) Sacrifices are not the ultimate solution to the sin problem. What is the solution to our sin problem? (8-9)How does the second (perfect obedience) supplant the first (sacrifices)? (9)
3. What does it mean “by this will”? What are the two contrasts in verses 11-12? (stands vs. seated; many sacrifices vs. one sacrifice) What did Jesus do for us that the Old Testament sacrifices could not? (10,14)
4. What enabled Jesus to sit at the right hand of God? (12) What does Jesus wait for? (13, 1 Cor. 15:25-27)
5. How does the Holy Spirit witness to us about the effectiveness of Christ’s sacrifice? Why is the new covenant better than the old covenant? (15,16)What is the promise of God to all who believe in Jesus? (17, Jer. 31:34)
6. What is the ultimate power of Jesus’ sacrifice for Christians? (18) Why should we give thanks to Jesus all the time?
