JESUS CHANGES WATER TO WINE

John 2:1-11

Key Verse: 2:11

“This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.”

1.      Where was the happy wedding that took place? (1) Who was there? (2) What kind of atmosphere does a wedding suggest? What does Jesus’ presence there tell us about him?

2.      What problem arose?  Who noticed it and what did she do about it? How did Jesus answer? Why do you think he answered like this? (Compare 19:26) How is Jesus’ time different from his mother’s? (7:6,8; 12:23; 17:1)

3.      How did Mary respond to Jesus’ words? What do we learn from Mary who told the servants to listen to Jesus? How can Mary’s request to Jesus be considered as prayer?

4.      What did Jesus tell the servants to do (first, next)? How did they respond? What did they have to overcome to obey Jesus? (How many water jars were there and how was this water usually used?) What can we learn from the servants?

5.      What did the banquet master say? What does this reveal about Jesus? (9,10) What blessing did each person at the wedding receive?

6.      What does this first sign tell us about Jesus and his ministry? (2 Co 5:17) About the importance of prayer and obedience? How was Jesus’ glory revealed?
