John 4:27-42
Key Verse: 4:35
“Do you not say, ‘Four months more and then the harvest’?
I tell you, open your eyes and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.”
* THE DISCIPLES’ EXASPERATION (27-30)
1. Why had the disciples been to the village of the despised Samaritans? What
were the unasked questions in their minds when they saw Jesus talking with the
Samaritan woman? Why did Jesus not want anything to eat?
2. What did the Samaritan woman do? What had moved her, and what conclusion
did she reach about Jesus? Why did she leave her water jar? (28-29)
* “OPEN YOUR EYES AND LOOK AT THE FIELDS!” (31-38)
3. How did Jesus see the people of the Samaritan village who came out to him?
Why? What vision did he have because of the change in this one woman? What can
we learn from him? (31-35)
4. Read verses 36-38. What does Jesus encourage his disciples to do? Why? How
can disciples of Jesus participate in God’s work?
5. In what sense was John the Baptist a co-harvester? Who were others who sowed to prepare for the harvest? How does Jesus want his disciples to see people who come?
* SAMARITAN EVANGELISM (39-42)
6. Read verses 39-42. How could this despised Samaritan woman become an evangelist?
What was her testimony? How did the Samaritans respond?
7. How did the Samaritans come to have personal faith? What did they tell the
woman? What can we learn from them?
8. How can we have vision to evangelize the whole world?
