THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY
Luke 19:28-48
Key Verse: 19:38
* THE MEANING OF JESUS' ENTRY INTO JERUSALEM (28-34)
1. Verse 28 begins, "After Jesus had said this..." What does the parable Jesus told suggest about Jesus' future plan? Why was he going to Jerusalem? (18:31,32)
2. Read Zechariah 9:9 to see how Jesus planned to enter Jerusalem. What does this tell us about the nature of Jesus' kingship? (see Mt. 11:28,29)
3. As this chapter opens, where was Jesus? In order to enter Jerusalem as he planned, what did he need? What mission did he give 2 of his disciples? What problem would they encounter? What were they to say?
4. How did they obey? What happened? What does this teach us about Jesus? (Jn 1:3)
* BLESSED IS THE KING (35-48)
5. How did Jesus reveal himself to be the Messiah who was prophesied? How did the people pay homage to Jesus the king? What did they shout? What does this teach us about Jesus' kingship? Why do we need a king like Jesus?
6. How did the Pharisees respond to Jesus' entry into Zion? What does this show about them? (20:9,10) How did Jesus answer them? Why would the stones cry out if the people were silent?
7. Why did Jesus weep? How had this city rejected God's blessing? What did he prophesy about this city? What does it mean that they did not know what would bring them peace or recognize the time of God's coming?
8. Where did Jesus go first and what did he do? Why? Why wasn't he humble and gentle in this situation? What does this teach us about Jesus?
9. What did Jesus teach about the meaning and purpose of the temple? How were the religious leaders using God's house? How must we use the house of God? (Mk 11:17) For what must we pray?
10. What does it mean that Jesus' entry into Jerusalem is a triumphal entry?
