THE RESURRECTION

Luke 24:1-53

* HE IS NOT HERE; HE HAS RISEN (1-12)

1. Who were the women and why did they go to the tomb? What were they thinking and feeling? What did they find when they got there?

2. What happened while they were wondering? What good news was given them? What words of Jesus did they finally remember? (9:22,44;18:3133) Why was this message so important?

3. How did .the apostles respond to the women's words? What had they forgotten that the women remembered? What did Peter do? Why could he not find joyful belief?

* ON THE ROAD TO EMMAUS (13-49)

4. Where were the two disciples going? Why had they left Jerusalem? What were they talking about?

5. Who joined them? Why couldn't they recognize him? What did Jesus ask them? What were the facts they had heard about Jesus and his death and resurrection? (19-24) What was their attitude toward those facts? Why?

6.For what did Jesus rebuke them? What did he teach them? What can we learn here? (25-27)

7. Read verses 28-29. What invitation did they give Jesus? What does this show about them? Read verses 30-32. When did they recognize Jesus? What happened when they met the risen Jesus and studied the Bible? Why?

8. What did these 2 disciples do? How did Jesus reveal himself to his disciples? How did he prove to them that it was he and that he had risen? Why was it important for them to be sure of this?

9. What did he teach them from the Bible and what command did he give them? What did he promise them?

* THE ASCENSION (50-53)

10. Look at verses 50-51. Describe his ascension. What hope does this event plant in their hearts? What did the disciples do after this? Why were they so joyful?
