THE BOY JESUS AT THE TEMPLE

1. What was the Passover Feast, and why did Joseph and his family go to Jerusalem to celebrate it? (Dt.16:1-8; Ex.23:15)
2. Why did they take twelve-year-old Jesus? (Think about what twelve-year-old boys are like.)
3. When did Jesus' parents realize that he was not with them? What did they do? Where did they look? When and where did they find him?
4. What was Jesus doing? How did the people in the temple respond to him? What does this scene reveal about Jesus-his inner desires, his attitude as a student, etc.?
5. How and why did his mother rebuke him? What does this show about his home and his relationship to his parents?
6. What was Jesus' answer? What does this answer reveal about Jesus' awareness of who he is?
7. Why did he say "had to be"? (KJV reads " I must be about my Father's business.") What can we learn from the boy Jesus?

8. What did Jesus do after they got back home? Why was obedient to human parents necessary, even though he was the Son of God? What does this tell us about him? what can we learn from him?
9. How does Luke describe Jesus' growing up in Nazareth? What do you think this means? What was it about his attitude that enabled him to grow? What can we learn from him?
