JESUS HEALS A MAN WITH LEPROSY

Luke 5:12-16

Key Verse: 5:13a

* JESUS' MERCY ON A MAN WITH LEPROSY (12,13a)

1. How does Luke describe the condition of the man who came to Jesus in verse 12? How does Luke's description differ from that in the other Synoptic Gospels? (Mt.8:2; Mk.1:40)

2. What was the attitude of society toward lepers at that time? (Lev.13:45,46) Think about this man's human situation.

3. What did he do when he saw Jesus? What does this show about his attitude toward himself? What are some of the things in himself and in society that he had to overcome in order to approach Jesus?

4. What did he say? What did he believe about Jesus? Why was he not sure that Jesus would be willing to help him?

* JESUS CLEANSED A MAN WITH LEPROSY (13-16)

5. What did Jesus do and say? With what result?

6. What did it mean to Jesus and to the man for Jesus to touch him? Was it necessary for Jesus to touch him to heal him? Why do you think Jesus touched him?

7. What do Jesus' words and actions reveal about him? (See Ex.33:19; 34:6,7a; Ro.2:4) How is leprosy like sin?(Ps.51:1,7,10) What does it mean that God is merciful? (Jn.3:16)

8. what happened to the man? What instructions did Jesus give him? Why? In what ways did his being made clean of his leprosy enable him to live a new life? How does being cleansed of sin enable us to live a new life? (See 2 Cor.5:17; Jn.1:12)

9. How did the people respond to the news of Jesus' mercy? What do verses 15,16 teach us about Jesus? What can we learn from him? How can we claim his mercy?
