THE HAPPY DISCIPLES

Luke 6:12-49

* BLESSED ARE YOU (12-26)

1. What had Jesus been doing on the mountainside? ( 12-16) Who was with him? Where did this event take place? Before whom and to whom did Jesus give this message? Where had the crowd come from and why?

2. Read verses 20-23. Who are the blessed people? What must be the basic inner motives and life principles of Jesus' disciples? Why? Why are disciples of Jesus blessed?

3. What does Jesus mean by "poor"? (Mt.5:3; 11:29; Nu.12:3) What is the hunger of which Jesus speaks? (Ps.119:81; Jn.6:35) Why are those who weep blessed? For what must disciples weep? (Ps.119:136; Jn.11:35)

4. Why should a disciple rejoice to be hated and persecuted? ( 1 Pet 4:13,14) What is the blessing? (23) Look at 20b. What is the great blessing Jesus promises to his disciples? (2 Tim.2:12)

5. Read verses 24-26. Who are the really miserable people? What do each of these woes teach us about the motives and goals of selfish people?

* LOVE YOUR ENEMIES (27-36)

6. How does Jesus define enemies? (27-31) How can disciples win spiritual victory over enemies?

7. Read 32-36. How must disciples' love be different from the love of worldly people? Why? (35b,36) How is it possible to love like this? (Ro.6:4; Ga1.2:20)

* WISE AND FOOLISH BUILDERS (37-49)

8. Why is it foolish to judge others? Why is it wise to forgive? Why must disciples give generously? (37,38) How can we have spiritual maturity and discernment? (39-42)

9. Read verses 43-45. What is necessary if a disciple's life is to bear good fruit? Who is the truly great man in God's sight?

10. Read verses 46-49. What determines whether a man is wise or foolish? Who are the foolish builders? How can one build a solid foundation? How can we have Jesus' motives and life principles?
