DON'T BE AFRAID; JUST BELIEVE
Luke 8:40-56
Key Verse: 8:50
* JAIRUS, A RULER OF THE SYNAGOGUE (40-42a)
1. Who welcomed Jesus when he returned from Gerasa? What might they have expected of him?
2. Who was Jairus? What did he do? What was his problem? Think about how difficult it might be for such a man to come to Jesus. Think about how precious his daughter must have been to him.
3. How did Jesus respond to him? What does this show about Jesus?
* DAUGHTER, YOUR FAITH HAS HEALED YOU (42b-48)
4. On the way to Jairus' house, what happened? Who was this woman? (See Lev 15:25; Mk 5:26) Contrast her with Jairus. What obstacles did she have to overcome? What does it mean that she came to Jesus? What happened when she touched his cloak?
5. What did Jesus say? How did he know that she had touched him? How did the disciples try to explain what had happened? Why wouldn't Jesus let her disappear into the crowd?
6. When and how did the woman identify herself? What was her public confession? Why was it necessary for her to make such a confession? (Ro 10:9) How did Jesus bless her? What did this mean to her?
* JUST BELIEVE (4956)
7. In the meantime, what was Jairus doing? What might he have been thinking? What was the bad news and bad advice that the messenger brought?
9. What happened when they reached Jairus' house? How did the friends and neighbors discourage Jairus? Who did Jesus take with him into Jairus' house? Why was it necessary to make an environment of faith?
10. What did Jesus say and do? What does this teach about him? (Jn 11:25)
