THE FIELDWORK TRAINING

Luke 9:1-9

Key Verse: 9:2

* JESUS' POWER AND AUTHORITY (1)

l. What was the mission Jesus gave the Twelve?(2) How had they participated in his ministry up to this time?(4:38,39; 5:33; 6:1; 7:11; 8:1,24,25,45,51)

2. What was their spiritual condition at this point of their training? (See 8:24,25) What was Jesus' purpose in sending them out? What does "disciple" mean? What is their task? What does "apostle" mean? What is their task? (9:10)

3. What spiritual equipment did Jesus give them? Think about Jesus' power and authority. What was its source? Its extent? (Gn.1:1,2; Jn.l:l-4; Lk.8:26-28; 8:54)

4. Why did they need power and authority? (Think about the power of demons.[Lk.8:28-31; Gn.3:1])

* PREACH THE KINGDOM OF GOD (2)

5. What was the main point of their message? Why is the message of the kingdom of God important? What happens when we accept the message of the kingdom of God? (See Mk.1:15; Lk.11:2; Ac.1:3; 1Pe.1:3,4; Ro.8:18) What does healing the sick teach about God?

* TAKE NOTHING FOR THE JOURNEY (3-9)

6. What did he tell them to take for the journey?(3) How did this teach them to depend on God alone? How can we practice this principle today? (Ph.4:13)

7. How did he tell them to make friends with people in the mission field? (4) What else could they learn from the instructions in verse 4?

8. How did he teach them not to compromise, but to have confidence in the gospel? (5; Mk.16:16) Why is this important? What-must gospel workers remember about all people?(Ro.3:10; 1:16)

9. How did the apostles carry out the mission Jesus gave them?

10.What was the response of most people? How did some people try to explain what was going on? How did Herod the tetrarch respond to the fieldwork training of the apostles? Why? What does this show about him?
