THE TRANSFIGURATION

Luke 9:28-36

Key Verse 9:29

* JESUS TRANSFIGURED (28,29)

1.What had happened, and what had Jesus said 8 days before? Where did Jesus go and why? (What was the most important prayer in his life?) Who did he take with him? Why did he take only these three?

2.What happened as Jesus was praying? How does Luke describe his glorious image? (Compare Rev 1:13-16) How does this glorious Jesus contrast with Jesus whom the apostles knew?(Isa 53:2,3; Lk 2; about Jesus' humble life)

* JESUS TALKS WITH MOSES AND ELIJAH (30-31)

3.Who appeared in splendor to talk with Jesus? What did they talk about?

4.Think about Moses' life and mission. (Ex 2:1-10; 3:5-10; 5:22,23; Ex 17:3,4; Ex 24:3,4a; Nu 27:15-17; Dt 5:1-5a; Dt 31:1-3,24-26) What was his mission? What did he do? How did he suffer?

5.Think about Elijah's life and mission. (1 Ki 18:20-40; 19:15,10,11) What was his mission? What did he do? How did he suffer?

6.In what respect were Moses, Elijah and Jesus all deliverers of their people? Suffering servants? Servants of God's word?

7.What did Moses and Elijah speak about with Jesus? (31b) What does this mean? Why did Jesus need their encouragement?

* LISTEN TO HIM (32-36)

8.With what were Peter, James and John struggling? Why were they so sleepy? When Peter woke up, saw them in glory and saw them leaving, what did he say? What do his words reveal about his real mind?

9.What happened as Peter was speaking? (34) What does the cloud suggest? (Ex 16:10; 19:9; 24:10; 46:34-35)

10. What did the voice of God reveal to them about Jesus? What did God command them? What does this mean? What did it mean to them later?(2 Pe 1:17b) What does it mean to us to hold the glorious image of Jesus in our hearts?

11. What is the conclusion of this event? What is the spiritual meaning of "Jesus was left alone"?
