1. Read verses 31-32. What did Jesus do on the Sabbath in Capernaum? How did the people respond to his teaching? What do you think he taught them? What does it mean that his message had authority?

2. Read verses 33-37. What happened that hindered his Bible teaching? What can we learn here about demons? How did Jesus glorify God through this problem? How did the people respond? What can we learn here about Jesus?

3. Read verses 38-39. Where did Jesus go after he left the synagogue? How and why did Jesus help Simon's mother-in-law? What did she do after being healed? What can we learn from her?

4. Read verses 40-41. What happened at sunset? How did Jesus serve the crowd? Why did Luke emphasize "each one"? Why did he silence the demons who knew who he was? (34,35, 41)

5. Read verses 42-44. How did Jesus find time to pray? Why was prayer so important to Jesus? (Mk 1:35) Why did it not seem important to others? What did Jesus do after prayer? What does this tell us about his purpose in coming?
