"Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven-- for she loved much. But he who has been forgiven little loves little."

1. Read verses 36-37a. Why did Simon invite Jesus? How did Jesus respond? What does this teach about Jesus? How is the woman who burst on this scene described? How might she have gotten into "a sinful life"? What compelled her to come to Jesus?

2. Read verses 37b-38. What did she bring with her? Why? How did she show her repentance? How could her actions have embarrassed Jesus? How did he receive her? (Ps 51:17) What does this show about Jesus' heart? (Lk 15:20)

3. Read verses 39-43. What did the Pharisee think about Jesus? Why? What story did Jesus tell him, and what question did Jesus ask? What does this story teach about Jesus' grace of forgiveness? (Eph 2:8-9; Ro 6:23b)

4. Read verses 44-47. How did Jesus compare and contrast the woman and Simon? Why did Jesus rebuke Simon? What didn't Simon know about himself? About God? About the effect of God's grace? (1Cor 15:10)

5. Read verses 48-50. What did Jesus say to the woman? Why? How could Jesus say this? (Lk 23:34a) How did Jesus further bless her? How can we receive the grace of forgiveness and God's peace? What fruit will this produce in our lives? Evaluate your affection for Christ in light of the woman.
