JESUS TAUGHT THE BIBLE TO HIS HOMETOWN PEOPLE

Matthew 13:53-14:12

    "Coming to his hometown, he began teaching the people in their
     synagogue, and they were amazed.  Where did this man get this
     wisdom and these miraculous powers?' they asked."

 
1. Read 13:53-58. Where did Jesus go first when he came home? Why?
   When Jesus taught the Bible to his hometown people what was the
   first response? Why?

2. Why did they take offense at him? How did Jesus view this? Why did
   their lack of faith hinder his work?

3. Read 14:1-12. When King Herod heard about the work of Jesus, what
   was his reaction? Why? What kind of man was Herod? In what sense was
   he a slave?

4. Why did Herod not want to kill John? How and why did he do so? What
   can we learn here about the fruits of an immoral life?

5. Who was John the Baptist? What was his mission? (Jn 1:29; Isa
   40:3-5) How did John show himself to be faithful to his mission?
   What reveals John's true freedom? What did it cost for him to
   fulfill his mission? What did he gain?
