THE TRIUMPHAL ENTRY
                               
Matthew 21:1-11

    "The crowds that went ahead of him and those that followed
     shouted, `Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who
     comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!'"

 
1.  Read verses 1-5. What was Jesus planning to do? What was
    uncharacteristic about the instructions he gave two disciples? What
    is significant about the words, "The Lord needs them"? What does
    this teach about the Lordship of Christ?

2.  Why was Jerusalem such an important place in God's history?
    (Isaiah 2:3) Why was Jesus going to Jerusalem?

3.  Read Zechariah 9:9-10. What does this prophecy tell us about the
    meaning of Jesus' Triumphal Entry? Why "triumphal"? About the nature
    of Jesus' Kingship?

4.  Read verses 6-11. Why might it be hard for the disciples to obey
    Jesus' command? What did they do? What can we learn from them about
    the sovereignty of God and the Lordship of Christ?

5.  How did the crowd welcome him? What is the meaning of the crowd's
    shout of welcome?
