1.      Read verses 1-2. What is the event that dominates the time? Who was king at the time of Jesus’ birth? What do you know about him?

2.      Who came to Jerusalem looking for the baby Jesus? Why were they looking for him? What did they know about him? How did they know? (Think about the meaning of the star. Nu 24:17a; Rev 22:16; 2 Pe 1:19) Why did they come to Jerusalem? Why would these scholars make such a journey?

3.      Read verses 3-6. How did Herod react to the Magi’s inquiry? How did this affect the people of Jerusalem? Why? How did he begin his investigation? What does this show about him? (4)

4.      What information did the religious leaders contribute? What was their source? What does this inference from Micah 5:2 tell us about the nature of the Christ’s kingship?

5.      Read verses 7-8. What did Herod find out from the Magi? Why was this important to him? (16) How did he instruct them? How did God protect them? (12)

6.      Read verses 9-11. When did they see the star again? What was their response? Why? To where did the star lead them? When they saw the child and his mother what did they do? What can we learn here about worship? Why must we worship the King?
