Blessed is the Man

Psalm 1:1-6

Key Verse 1:2

I. The Way of the Righteous (1-3)

1.      What does the blessed man actively avoid? (1)  Give an example of counsel of the wicked. (Esther 3:5,6; 2 Sa 13:3-5)  Why do people walk in such counsel?  Why do people like to stand in the way of sinners, and to sit in the seat of mockers?  If so, why does the blessed man avoid these ways?

2.      Read verse 2. In what does the blessed man actively engage and in what does he delight ? (2)   (Ps 119:147,148)  What does it mean to meditate on the law of the LORD? (Mk 4:20,24)  Think about how important it is to meditate on the Word given to us.

3.      To what is the man who meditates on the law of the LORD day and night compared? (3a) What is characteristic of a tree planted by streams of water? (3b)  What fruit does such a man yield? (Ps 19:7-10; 119:97-105; 2 Ti 3:15-17)

4.      How do things turn out for the blessed man? (3c)  Why is it that whatever he does prospers? (Jos 1:7,8; Rom 8:28)

II. The Way of the Wicked (4-6)

5.      What are the wicked like? (4)  Why is chaff blown away by wind?  In what ways are the wicked like chaff that the wind blows away?

6.      What happens to the wicked on the Day of Judgment? (5)  What is the assembly of the righteous, and why is it a serious problem when one is not in it?  Whom does the LORD watch over?  What finally becomes of the wicked? (6)
