Revelation 21-22

Key vs. 21: 2 “I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband.”

 

  1. Read vs. 21:1-2. After all these, John is shown a new heaven and a new earth. (1)  What does it mean that there is no sea?  How does the Holy City, the New Jerusalem, come down out of heaven? (2)  What does it symbolize? (9,19:7) Compare the Holy City and the great prostitute Babylon.

 

  1. Read vs. 3-8. How does a voice proclaim loudly the fulfillment of God’s purpose? (3) What has been God’s ultimate desire since Adam sinned? (Gen17:7-8)  How does God fulfill his desire? (Gn3:15, Jn1:14,19:30)  How does God comfort the redeemed? (4,6)  What is God’s warning against those who reject his love? (8)

 

  1. Read vs. 9-14. How does the angel introduce the Holy City? (9) Describe the appearance of the Holy City? –Its outlook, wall, gates and foundations. (11-14) What does each symbolize? What does it symbolize that the names of the 12 tribes and of the 12 apostles are written on the gates and the foundations of the city?

 

  1. Read vs. 15-21. How does the angel measure the Holy City? (15)  What are the measurements of the city and the wall? (16,17) What do they symbolize about the Holy City?  How are the city, its wall, foundations, gates and street decorated? (18-21) What does each symbolize about the city? (Ex28:17-20)

 

  1. Read vs. 22-27. Find out what is surprisingly missing in the city? (22,23)  What does it mean that God and the Lamb are its temple and its light? Why is there no need to shut the gates? (25)  Who are its residents and how do they bring glory and honor to it? (24,26)

 

  1. Read vs. 22:1-5. Where does the river of the water of life flow? (1) What does the river of life symbolize? (Jn4:14)  How does the tree of life yield its crop and what are they used for? (2,21:4)  How does God nurture his people and how do they  serve him? (3-5)  

 

  1. Read vs. 7-21. How does Jesus assure of his coming soon? (7,12)  What does it mean that “I am the Alpha and the Omega.”? (13)  What is God’s warning against those who add to or subtract from this book? (18,19)  Summarize the conflicts and destinies of the believers and unbelievers. How should we live while waiting for the Lord’s coming?
