The Throne In Heaven

Revelation 4-5

Key vs. 4:8 Each of the four living creatures had six wings and was covered with eyes all around, even under his wings. Day and night they never stop saying: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty, who was, and is, and is to come.’"

1.      Read vs. 4:1-3. After encouraging/rebuking the churches, where does the Lord invite John and what does he promise to show? (1)  What does the Lord show him first? (2)  Who is sitting on the throne in heaven? How do the jewels and rainbow describe the characters of God?

2.      Read vs. 4-5.  Surrounding the throne, who are sitting on the twenty-four thrones? (4)  How do their dresses and crowns of gold describe the characters of the elders? (19:8, 2Tim4:8)  How do the flashes of lightning and thunder and a sea of glass heighten the sense of God’s presence? (5,8:5, 16:18)  How do the blazing seven lamps show the penetrating presence of the Spirit?

3.      Read vs. 6-11. Around the throne are four living creatures that are covered with eyes and have six wings each. What do they symbolize? (7,8, Is6:3,Ezk 1) How do they praise God day and night? How do the twenty-four elders worship and praise Him? (10,11)  Why is God alone worthy to be praised?

4.      Read vs. 5:1-4.  John sees a scroll in the right hand of God. What is written on it and why is it sealed with seven seals? (1, 4:1,10:2) What does it say about God’s sovereignty over human history?  What is John’s reaction when there is no one worthy to open it? (4)

5.      Read vs. 5-6.  Jesus alone is worthy to open the scroll.  What do the names of Jesus show about his triumph? (5) How did he defeat the enemy? (6, Heb2:14, Phil2:9,Mt28:18)  What does it show about his powerful ministry that he has seven horns and seven eyes?

6.      Read vs. 7-14. How do the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders respond to the Lord Jesus when he has taken the scroll? (8,9)  What does it show about the significance of our prayer? (6:10,8:4) How did Jesus enable us to participate in reigning with him? (10, 20:6)  How do the angels and every creature participate in the grand orchestra?
