Revelation 17-18

Key vs. 18: 2 With a mighty voice he shouted: ‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great! She has become a home for demons and a haunt for every evil spirit, a haunt for every unclean and detestable bird.’”

 

  1. Read vs. 17:1-2. The angel shows John the great prostitute. Think about the characteristics of the prostitute. How does she commit adultery with the kings of the earth? (2) How are the inhabitants of the earth intoxicated with the wine of her adulteries? (15, Eze23, James4:4)

 

  1. Read vs. 3-6.  What does it symbolize that she is sitting on a scarlet beast? (3). What do her dress, jewelry and the cup show about her characters? (4, Eze16) How does she collaborate with the beast in persecuting the saints? (4,6)  What does her title reveal her true nature? (5,18)  What does Babylon represent? Who does the prostitute represent?

 

  1. Read vs. 7-11. Why is everyone astonished at the appearance of the beast? (8,13:3, 20:3)  What do the seven heads symbolize? (9) What do the seven hills and the seven kings imply about the nature of the beast? (10, Dan7)  What does it mean that the beast belongs to the seven kings? (11)  What does the beast represent?

 

  1. Read vs. 12-18.  When will the ten horns appear and what will they do? (12,13) How will they make war against the Lord? (14, 13:5, 16:16,19:14,20:8,Dan7:25)  Why will the beast destroy the prostitute? (16, 2The2:4)  What does it show about God’s sovereign purpose? (17)

 

  1. Read vs. 18:1-8. How does a mighty angel announce the fall of Babylon? (1,2)  How did the devil work behind her adultery?  How did she commit spiritual adulteries with the kings and the merchants? (3,9)  What does a voice from heaven tell God’s people? (4, Mt24:16)  How does God punish Babylon? (6-8,10,19)  

 

  1. Read vs. 9-24. Why are the collaborators of Babylon terrified? (10,15) How did they benefit from her respectively? (10,12-13,15,17)  How does God vindicate the believers? (20, 6:10-11) How is the doom of Babylon complete? (21-23)  What does it teach us the danger of compromising with the world? (1John2:10)
