GOD’S MISISON THROUGH HIS REMNANT

Romans 11:1-15
Key Verse 11:4...    “And what was God’s answer to him? ‘I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal.’”

· THE REMNANT OF ISRAEL (1-6)

1. Read verse 1. Did God reject his people Israel? In what respect was Paul himself a remnant, chosen by God’s grace? (Ac 9:15, 1 Co 15:9,10)

2. What was Israel’s condition in the time of Elijah? (1 Ki 16:30-33) What was Elijah’s situation (1 Ki 18:36-40, 19:1-5, 18) What did God teach him?

3. Look at verse 4 again. What does “for myself” mean? How does God use his remnant, chosen by his grace? (Think about Paul and Elijah and others whom he chose by his grace and used in his world salvation work.)

· THE TRANGRESSION OF ISRAEL (7-15)

4. What happens to people when they harden their hearts? When the Jews continued to close their hearts to God’s love, and reject God’s grace, what happened to their spiritual perception (8)?

5. When Israel became arrogant and self-righteous because of the abundant table of God’s grace, what happened to them (9-10)?

6. How did Israel’s failure result in blessing for the Gentile world? Did God give up on Israel? What is God’s hope for them (11-12)?  How did Paul view his ministry (13-15)?
