1. Read verse 16. (Nu. 15:18-20) How does the consecration of a remnant result in making the whole nation holy? (See Ro 15:16,17) What is Paul’s understanding of God’s world salvation purpose?  Who is the root who makes all who belong to him holy (Is 11:10; Rev 5:5, 22:16)

2. Who are the branches that were broken off? (17) Why were they broken off (20)

3. Who are the wild olive shoots (17)? What blessing did they receive? How does their ingrafting reveal God’s sternness and kindness (22)? What should be the attitude of the wild olive shoots that have been grafted in (18, 20)

4. What is God’s hope for his people (26a)? What was Paul’s basis for this hope? Who is the deliverer from Zion (26b)? What does verse 29 teach about God’s faithfulness?

5. How did the Gentiles receive God’s mercy (30)? Who will receive the mercy of God as the result of God’s mercy to the Gentiles (31)? What does verse 32 teach about God’s mercy and his way of working?

6.  How did Paul’s anguish in 9:2 turn into his praise to God (33)?  Why should we praise God when we face many adverse human situations? What does Paul learn about God as he reflects on God’s world salvation work? What’s Paul’s response to God’s sovereignty in world salvation?
