· The Objects of Mercy and the Objects of Wrath (19-29)

1. What problem is raised in God’s way of working in election (19)? What is the point of the parable of the potter? What can we learn from this parable about the creator’s purpose in each act of creation (21)? Why should we not talk back to God? (19-21)

2. Read verses 22 and 23. What are two classes of mankind? What does God reveal about himself in his dealing with each?

3. How has God chosen to exercise his sovereignty to accomplish his world redemptive purpose? How has he made his redemptive work inclusive-even of Gentiles who were supposed to be objects of his wrath? (24-29)

4. What shows that God intended to include the Gentiles in his world redemptive plan from the beginning? How does this reveal his amazing grace and mercy?

5. How has he revealed his grace and mercy to Israel also (27)? What does verse 28 teach about the redemptive work of God?

· Israel’s Unbelief (30-33)

6.  Why did the Gentile obtain righteousness while the Jews failed to obtain it (30)? Why did the Jews fail to attain righteousness (31,32)? Who is the stumbling stone? How does the same “stone” save some and crush others (33)?
