1. Read verses 31-32. Describe Jesus’ second coming. Compare his second coming with the first. How is his second coming a contrast to the way people treat him? (Isaiah 53:3; Mk 8:38) How does his second coming give hope to those who are faithful to him? (Acts 1:10,11)
2. Read verses 31-33. What will Jesus do when he comes again? Why is the word “all” in verse 32 important? (cf. 2Cor 5:10; Heb 9:27)Why is the separation between sheep and goats inevitable at the Judgment? (cf Lk 17:34,35; Mt 13:30)
3. Read verses 33-40. How does Jesus reward his sheep? Why is it worthy reward? Why is he pleased with the sheep? Why are they surprised? What is it important that Jesus considers the needy as his own brothers? (40; John 10:11-13) What can we learn here about how to live as a child of God?
4. Read verses 41-46. How did he rebuke and punish the “goats”? Why were they surprised? What does he teach about every person’s opportunity to serve the King? (Compare Ro 2:6-8) What can we learn here about heaven and hell? How can we grow as sacrificial servants of God in this generation in which selfishness is largely condoned? (cf. Mt 9:9;Mk 6:34; John 10:11)
