1. Read verse 1. What does the metaphor of a shepherd and sheep teach us about God’s
relationship to his people? (Jn 10:14) What is the significance of “my”? How does having
a personal relationship with God meet all our needs?
2. Where does the Lord lead us? (2) Why are people weary in their souls? (Ps 107:10-11)
How can we be refreshed in our souls? (3) Why does the shepherd guide his sheep to the
right path?
3. What is the “darkest valley” to you? How can we not fear evil while walking through it?
(4) How does this experience develop one’s relationship with God? What do the rod and
the staff represent? How do these comfort sheep?
4. In terms of the relationship between God and his people, what new metaphor does the
author use in verses 5-6? How does God provide for and protect those who take refuge in
him?
5. What is the author’s conviction and how can he have it? (6) What vision and hope does
this give to those who follow God? What decision does the author make?
