34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. 35 By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
God blessed the 2017 YDJ Retreat held at Concord Retreat Center, Yellow Spring, WV. We had 28 attendees from Washington, Cornerstone and George Mason chapters and each of us were blessed through God’s word and through wonderful fellowship. Danny Hong shared the first message on Thursday evening on Mark 2:13-17 reminding us that Jesus came for the sick and the unrighteous, and that we can come to Him just as we are to find healing and forgiveness in Him. On Friday morning, we received much grace through our group Bible study on John 13, led by Johanna, Ekan, Henok and myself. Abraham Song shared a gracious message on this passage pointing us to the humility and love of Jesus as he washed his disciples’ feet, and we were challenged by Jesus’ command to love others the way He loves. Joseph Forbes encouraged us through a message on Philippians 2:1-11 to have the same mindset as Jesus in our relationships with each other, learning to imitate Him through bible reading and prayer and loving others above our own interests. The times of Praise and Worship led by Susan Yun were a great blessing and God used this time for some of our YDJ members to accept Jesus’ love very personally and recommit themselves to Him and for us to lay hands and pray for each other. We were the only group at the spacious retreat center and their staff served us very delicious food. We enjoyed good fellowship in our free time, Hannah Chung led a fun Escape room team building activity and we enjoyed warming ourselves and roasting s’mores and sausage at campfire. God used this retreat to help each of us to personally receive Jesus’ humble love and to be challenged to follow His example this year.
