ABOUT US
University Bible Fellowship (UBF) is an international evangelical church (non-denominational) and network of house churches dedicated to Christ and his kingdom. Our main focus is to study the Bible, grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, and live according to his teachings. We especially pray to reach college students and help them grow as his lifelong disciples. Our goal is to obey our Lord’s commands to love one another and to go and make disciples of all nations (John 13:34; Matthew 28:18-20). We pray that God may continue to call and raise lay missionaries through us and send them to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8).
Pastor Phillip was born and raised in Georgia. Though he confessed faith in Jesus Christ and was baptized before high school, he was richly blessed to have studied the Bible 1:1 with a missionary through University Bible Fellowship during his days as a struggling college student. Through Bible study, God gave him a calling to serve the Lord and honor His name with his life. After spending more than 8 years serving in a foreign land, God called him and his family back to the United States in an unexpected way. In the fall of 2017, he took over as director of Washington UBF from original founder Jacob Lee. He longs for others to meet Lord Jesus personally through the Word of God and serve Him. He is happily married to Sarah, an amazing woman of God, and they have 2 sons together. He is an avid Atlanta Braves fan and asks that you not hold this against him.

CORE VALUES
-
Loving God and His Word: Through Daily Bread devotions, personal Bible study, one–to–one and group Bible study and teaching, Sunday worship with expository preaching, Bible reflection writing and sharing in fellowship meetings we put great emphasis on loving God and His Word that He has given.
-
Prayer: We believe that God’s people should be a people of prayer. We strive to carry this out in personal, small group, united, family settings.
-
Discipleship: Through learning to deny oneself, take up one’s own cross and follow Jesus, growing in his image in humility, obedience, servantship, compassion, and maturing in faith, hope and love we aim to grow as Jesus’ disciples.
-
Church Community: By sharing life together, loving one another and valuing each person through serving, caring, praying, Bible teaching, mentoring, worshiping together and maturing in the image of Christ we aim to build up a loving Christian community in accordance with the Scriptures
-
World Mission: We remain committed to world missions by learning God’s vision for the whole world and participating in it through outreach, prayer, sending short term missionaries as well as long term self–supporting lay missionaries and caring for them, and recognizing the priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:9).
-
Christ and His Kingdom: We share Christ’s vision of calling all peoples, races and tribes into his kingdom. Christ is our king and all Christians, as part of his body, are our brothers and sisters.
STATEMENT OF FAITH
-
We believe that there is one God in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
-
We believe that God created the heavens and the earth and all other things in the universe: that He is the Sovereign Ruler of all things; that the Sovereign God reveals Himself; we believe in his redemptive work and in his final judgment.
-
We believe that the Bible is inspired by God; that it is the truth; that it is the final authority in faith and practice.
-
We believe that since the fall of Adam, all people have been under the bondage and power of sin and are deserving of the judgment and wrath of God.
-
We believe that Jesus Christ, who is God and man, through his atoning, sacrificial death on the cross for our sins and his resurrection, is the only way of salvation; he alone saves us from sin and judgment and purifies us from the contamination of the world caused by sin.
-
We believe that Jesus Christ rose from the dead, ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father.
-
We believe that being born again is by the work of the Holy Spirit, and that it is necessary if one is to enter the kingdom of God. We believe that God sent his Holy Spirit to empower his church to witness to Jesus to the ends of the earth.
-
We believe that we are made righteous by grace alone, through faith alone.
-
We believe that the Holy Spirit lives and works in the heart of every believer.
-
We believe that the church is the body of Christ and that all Christians are members of it.
-
We believe that Jesus will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead.
BEGINNING OF OUR CHAPTER
In 1975, three self supporting missionary couples came to America with the heart to spread the gospel in Washington DC. Originally serving the George Washington University, the church decided to move to College Park, MD and since then has grown into a 150-member church mainly serving the University of Maryland College Park campus. Located nearby the school, our church's goal is to teach and encourage college students through one-to-one Bible Studies, group meetings, and Sunday Worship Services. In the past years, Washington UBF has raised many Bible teachers and have sent out many short-term and long-term missionaries.
HISTORY OF UBF
University Bible Fellowship (UBF) began in South Korea through Mother Sarah Barry and the late Dr. Samuel Lee by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Formerly a pastor from the Presbyterian Church, Dr. Lee received God’s calling for campus students and began to teach them the Bible. In 1961, Missionary Sarah Barry from the Southern Presbyterian Mission received the same calling and joined Dr. Lee for campus student mission in the southern city of Kwangju, South Korea. UBF grew to be a highly evangelistic and missionary-minded church that has sent over 1,800 self supporting missionaries to more than 90 countries.
